Respected Director resigns from Fraser River Port Authority Board

November 23, 2004: Michael J. Jones, MBA, B.Sc, P. Eng, a long-serving member of the Fraser River Port Authority Board of Directors, will resign his seat effective December 31, 2004.

“It has been my privilege and pleasure to serve on the Port’s board continuously from July 1991,” said Jones. “I have a multitude of good memories of the people with whom I have worked, and others I met in connection with the Port’s work, over those years

Director Jones officially advised the Board and Port Authority President and CEO Captain Allen Domaas, of his intention to leave during the November meeting of the Board of Directors. The decision to leave four months prior to the end of his term in May 2005 was difficult, but prudent in light of changes in his health, he said.

“Mike has been a friend and asset to our board and to the port,” said Malkiat Dhami, Chair of the Fraser River Port Authority Board of Directors. “His efforts and guidance are a large part of what has enabled Fraser River Port to become the second-largest port by volume in Canada.”

Mike Jones served on the Board of the Fraser River Harbour Commission between 1991 and 1999. After the Harbour Commission became the Fraser River Port Authority in 1999, Mr. Jones was appointed to the Port Authority’s Board of Directors for a three-year term, and was reappointed in 2002. Throughout his thirteen plus years on the Boards of both organizations, he was twice elected Vice-chair, and eight times elected Chair. He currently serves as Chair of the Board’s Conduct and Governance Committee.
