Rick Pearce steps down as Fraser River Port Authority's President & CEO

February 14, 2002: Mr. Michael Jones, Chair of the Fraser River Port Authority, has announced that Mr. Rick Pearce is stepping down as President and CEO, effective immediately. Mr. Pearce, who has been on sick leave for the past sixteen months, stated in a memo that although his recovery is progressing, “there is little likelihood that I will be able to return to full duties in the near future.” He will continue as an employee of the Port Authority, but remain on extended leave.

Mr. Pearce joined the Fraser River Harbour Commission in 1973, and served as Port Manager from 1978 until early 1999. In May 1999, he became the President and CEO of the newly formed Fraser River Port Authority, working with the Board to transform the Commission into a Canadian Port Authority under the new Canada Marine Act. “Under Rick’s leadership, this port has evolved from a few pioneer terminal facilities into one of the major ports in Canada. Fraser River Port is now a player in Pacific Rim trade and is a link in the worldwide logistics chain,” said Mr. Jones.

The Fraser River Port Authority administers Fraser River Port, and has jurisdiction over the main arm of the lower Fraser River, west of Kanaka Creek and Pitt Lake. More than 25 million tonnes of cargo move through Fraser River Port terminals each year, creating more than 6,000 local jobs.
