Port Authority serves up Fish n’ Ships at FraserFest 2005

July 8, 2005: Free “fish n’ ships” will be offered at FraserFest this year.  That’s not a typo!  The Fraser River Port Authority is sponsoring two craft activities at the festival this year, boat building and fish crafts.  Both activities will be held between 11 am and 3 pm on Saturday, July 16 and Sunday, July 17.

“Fish n’ Ships is just another way that Fraser River Port puts the fun into one of the Lower Mainland’s most popular family festivals,” said Megan Park, Community Relations Coordinator for the Fraser River Port Authority.

Boat building workshops have been a festival highlight for over ten years and are an ideal opportunity for parents and children to work together to build and decorate their own ‘Ship of the Fraser’.  Every child will receive a free boat kit containing a rough wooden hull, a wheelhouse, mast, and other parts and tools for assembly.  Volunteers from the Vancouver Maritime Museum will be on hand to offer assistance to the kids.

Fish crafts are offered at the Arts Council of New Westminster booth.  Kids can make a ‘fish on a line’ with the help of local artists.

“We’re really pleased that the Fraser River Port Authority is sponsoring our craft booth again this year,” said Andrée St. Martin, Executive Director of the Arts Council of New Westminster.  “Their support means we are able to provide a free, fun activity for all.”
