Port Authority donates regimental band performance to FraserFest 2004

July 15, 2004: The Fraser River Port Authority is donating a performance by the Royal Westminster Regiment Band to entertain the crowds at FraserFest 2004.  The performance will take place on Saturday, July 17, 2004 from 6-7:30pm, on the entertainment stage located on the New Westminster Quay in front of the Royal City Star Casino Boat.

The Port Authority purchased the performance during an annual fundraising event for New Westminster’s Fraser River Discovery Centre, earlier in the year.

The band, which has delighted crowds at FraserFest in the past, is part of a Canadian Forces Primary Reserve infantry regiment from the local area.

“We’re really pleased to be able to sponsor this event,” said Captain Allen Domaas, President and CEO of the Fraser River Port Authority. “It is a way for us to support two very worthwhile organizations in our community that enrich the lives of those living and visiting in the area.”

Both organizations share a long history in New Westminster. The Royal Westminster Regiment traces its history in the region back to the 1850’s, while the Port Authority was created in 1913, to facilitate trade and waterborne commerce along the main arm of the Fraser River.

The Port Authority is sponsoring other family-oriented events during the popular weekend celebration of the Fraser River in New Westminster, including Paddlewheeler harbour tours, children’s boat building workshops, hat making, a fun scavenger hunt, and displays.  Their patrol boat, Port Fraser, will also lead the workboat parade that wraps up the weekend celebrations on Sunday afternoon.
