| New appointment to Fraser River Port Authority Board |

July 5, 2005: The Fraser River Port Authority is pleased to announce the appointment, by Order in Council, of Mr. Mel Nunweiler to its Board of Directors for a three-year term beginning June 13, 2005. The appointment marks a return to the Board for Mr. Nunweiler who served as Director from 2000 to 2003, which included a term as Vice Chair in 2001.
Mr. Nunweiler is a member of the Chartered Institute of Transport and the International Forest Products Transport Association. He is a former transportation executive with expertise in domestic and international transport, industry liaison and policy development. He has held various positions at Canadian Forest Products Ltd., Prince George Pulp and Paper Ltd., CN Rail, and has also worked as a Transportation Consultant.
Mr. Nunweiler is a past Vice Chair and Chair of the Canadian Pulp and Paper Association (Transportation Section) and has been active within the Western Canada Shippers Coalition, as well as the Transportation and Marine Committees for Council of Forest Industries of British Columbia. He has also participated as an expert witness to Standing Committees on Transportation of both the House of Commons and the Senate.
The Fraser River Port Authority’s seven member Board is made up of four nominated by user groups and approved by the Minister of Transport, one federal appointee, one provincial appointee, and one appointee chosen by the nine municipalities that border the Port Authority’s jurisdiction.
The Fraser River Port Authority has a mandate to facilitate and support trade and
port-related activities on the main arm of the Fraser River. The Port
encompasses 270 kilometres of shoreline along the Fraser River from Langley to
the Strait of Georgia. It contributes $2.3 billion to Canada’s Gross Domestic
Product, generates over $236 million in revenues to all levels of government
through taxes and fees, and provides over 12,400 direct jobs.
