Land Use Plan adopted by Board of Directors

May 24, 2000 : The Fraser River Port Authority is pleased to announce the adoption of its long-term Land Use Plan, which is one of the new requirements under the Canada Marine Act. The Plan contains a set of policies that the Port Authority will use to manage its upland sites, as well as the harbour within its jurisdiction, over the next twenty years.

The FRPA Land Use Plan was prepared by Fifty Three Thirty Group Consultants and Thomas Consultants over the course of a year and a half, beginning in September 1998. It was formally adopted by the Port Authority’s Board of Directors at a meeting on April 26, 2000.

Preparation of the Plan involved extensive consultation with the general public at a series of workshops and public meetings. It also involved consultations with Fraser River Port stakeholders, municipalities and other levels of government, special interest groups, and businesses operating within Fraser River Port.

The Fraser River Port Authority is a federally mandated agency responsible for administering Fraser River Port. The Port’s jurisdiction borders on nine Fraser River municipalities: Delta, Richmond, Surrey, New Westminster, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Pitt Meadows, Maple Ridge and Langley. According to the latest port economic impact study, shipping and trade-related activities in Fraser River Port contribute more than $1.4 billion towards Canada’s GDP each year. These activities create a total of 24,000 jobs across the country, more than 6,000 of them in the Lower Mainland region.

Reference copies of the plan have been sent to the reference libraries and the planning departments of each of the nine municipalities in the Port’s jurisdiction.

Copies are available at a unit price of $20.00 plus GST and PST. To order a copy, please contact the Land Use Plan Coordinator at Fraser River Port Authority, 500 - 713 Columbia Street, New Westminster, BC V3M 1B2 Phone: (604) 524-6655 Fax: (604) 524-1127 email: fraserport@frpa.com
