Mission Statement

Fraser River Port Authority facilitates trade and transportation through marine and land-based operations and contributes to the achievement of Canada’s economic and social objectives in an environmentally and fiscally responsible way.

Fraser River Port’s Goals and Objectives

• To contribute to the quality of life in the communities in which we operate by supporting local social, economic and environmental programs which are in line with the Port’s business objectives.
• To increase public awareness of our role and economic contribution to the community and Canada; and to maintain a presence in the national and international marine communities.
• To establish the Fraser River Port Authority as a vital port authority, a good neighbour and a good corporate citizen in the Lower Mainland area.

What Will We Fund?

The Fraser River Port Millennium Fund will support a wide range of projects that are of benefit to the marine transportation community and to the Fraser River communities within the Port’s jurisdiction. The Fund’s advisory committee will consider the goals and priorities of the community.

The Fund will exist for a limited time only, up to three years or until the fund capital of $250,000 is dispersed, whichever occurs first.

Applications will be considered for:

• program related projects (i.e. specific, time-related activities)
• capital projects (i.e. construction, renovation or equipment purchases)

Eligibility

Eligible applicants include registered charities and qualified donees under the Income Tax Act. They must demonstrate fiscal responsibility and effective management. Grants are not made to individuals or to businesses.

Guiding Principles

• funds requested should constitute less than 50% of project costs, from a minimum of $5,000 to a maximum of $25,000 for a single recipient
• matching fund grants or other significant sources of funding support should be evident
• projects should have a lasting impact or legacy for the Fraser River communities
• project should not duplicate existing projects already funded by Fraser River Port
• projects should support the goals and objectives of the port

Ineligible Requests

• 100% of project’s costs
• operational expenses
• retroactive funding
• debt retirement or mortgage pay-down
• conferences, competitions, festivals, symposia, annual events, or travel to/attendance at such events
• office equipment and furniture
• activities of religious organizations
• sabbatical leaves, student exchanges
• sports
• school construction
• publication of books
• support for academic or dissertation research
• endowment grants
• activities previously supported through government funding

Application Process

Applications should be received at least three weeks prior to official deadline which will be advertised in local newspapers and on our web site. Currently, the first application deadline is set at March 31, 2000.

The Fund coordinator will review your application for basic eligibility and may contact you for further details.

Eligible applications are presented to the Advisory Committee for review. After consideration, the committee will make a recommendation to the Board of Directors of the Fraser River Port Authority.

A final decision will be available approximately 30 days after the deadline date. You will receive written notification of the Board’s decision, along with the terms and conditions of any grant that has been awarded.

Submitted materials become the property of the Fraser River Port Authority. Final decisions on all grants rest with the Port Authority and access to its decisions is restricted.
