Emergency Preparedness
FLOODING
With indications of flooding to occur in the Lower Mainland this spring, the Fraser River Port Authority advises all tenants to
prepare their properties and structures to reduce the risk of damage.
In addition, all river users are advised to abide by restrictions and closures based on
rising water levels of the Lower Fraser River as measured at the Mission Gauge.
The following document shows the areas of possible wash restrictions and channel
closures on the North and South Arm of the river:

The following information has been put together to further assist tenants and port users in
preparing for a potential flood.
Flood preparedness tips:
- Check your level of preparedness if your home or business is built on a
flood plain.
- Prepare an emergency plan for any natural disaster that might affect your
property, and coordinate with neighbours to establish how you can support each
other in case of an emergency.
- Contact your municipality to learn more about protecting critical
structures if your area is subject to flooding and ensure that you have
locally relevant flood information, including how authorities plan to provide
updates to residents and businesses within the community on the flood risk or
emergency plans.
- Contact the Port Authority for approval prior to any construction or repair of structures in
poor condition, including piles and supporting structures such as wharfs, ramps,
and walkways
