Surrey Properties
The Port Authority's general cargo terminal is located on its 143-hectare (353-acre)
Surrey Properties site. Fraser Surrey Docks features six deep-sea berths, 8.8-acres of covered storage, ISO 9000 handling, and direct ship to rail loading.
Ideally located close to all major road networks, it is also served by five railways:
CN,
CP, BNSF, BCR and SRY. For complete information about Fraser
Surrey Docks, be sure to visit their website.
In March 2004, a $190 million upgrade was announced for the Surrey Properties
aimed at boosting capacity to 415,000 TEUs (20-foot equivalent units) and improving
site efficiency. A second phase, to take capacity to about 600,000 TEUs, could
proceed if container growth continues.
Major aspects of the current upgrade project include:
- site improvements, equipment acquisition including two ship gantry cranes,
and a new streamlined gate for trucks
- a 7.5-hectare rail-oriented intermodal yard immediately adjacent to the
docks
- infrastructure improvements and a 2.8 km extension to the rail holding yard
Several other industries are also located at or adjacent to the Surrey Properties:
- International Forest Products Ltd. (Acom Mill) - lumber mill
- Titan Steel & Wire Co. Ltd. - steel processing
- Westnav Container
Services - a specialty grains distribution centre
- CTL Steel Ltd. - cut-to-length steel operation
